Ausom ANC8 Active Noise Cancelling Headphones Review

Ausdom ANC8 Active Noise Cancelling Headphones Review

Hey guys, Lance here and welcome to my review of the Ausdom ANC8 Noise Cancelling Bluetooth Headphones. Ausdom has created some good value headphones in the past and I was excited to try one of their latest models. Overall, these headphones are certainly a fair value given their current price, but if you’re trying to get as much sound quality as possible for your money, these probably wouldn’t be the best choice. However, there are some valid reasons these headphones would be a decent choice which is what I’ll get into in this review as well.

ACCESSORIES

Ausdom ANC8 Accessories and CaseIncluded with the ANC8 is a lightweight carrying case, that’s fairly durable and helps to make these headphones great for travel. Also included is a 3.5mm cable which allows you to use these as wired headphones (and thus you can use then when they’re not charged or when the battery has run out). Finally, there’s a micro USB cable which is what you use to charge these headphones.

I would prefer not having a strap, as this would make getting to your headphones that much faster. Sure the strap helps make sure the headphones aren’t going to slide around, but the case is pretty form fitting anyways, so it’s not like it’s going to be sliding around that much.

FEATURES

The ANC8 provides noise cancellation which works ok, but it’s not great. It’s kind of inbetween what you’d get from Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones and cheap gimmicky noise cancelling headphones. The noise cancellation is most noticeable with lower frequency sounds. So the sound of an air conditioner or a dryer are examples where a good amount of sound is reduced.

But otherwise, it really doesn’t reduce things like talking or mid-higher frequency sounds as much. And that’s ok given the price of these headphones. One nice thing about the noise cancellation is it doesn’t create any weird sensations around your ears or give you a headache the way some Bose Noise-cancelling headphones can do. Also, you can use the Active Noise Cancellation feature on it’s own. You don’t need to be listening to music to use it.

The Bluetooth feature of these Ausdom headphones is fantastic. It pairs easily and quickly with any Bluetooth device that I paired with it. It stays paired and doesn’t have latency the say some other Bluetooth headphones do.

There’s a built in microphone for hands-free calls which works well. And you get up to 20 hours of battery time, though this will vary depending on what type of music you’re listening to and how loud you like to listen to things. But battery life is on the longer side of things compared to other headphones around this price range and that’s a nice thing.

DESIGN AND BUILD QUALITY

Ausdom ANC8 EarcupsFrom an overall build quality standpoint, these are nice. They’re not rickety, they don’t make weird creaking noises when you’re using or adjusting them. The ear cups are made of a comfortable protein leather and they pivot 90 degrees which helps you get a comfortable fit.

It’s easy to adjust the headphone size by the sliding click adjustments. I like that once you have them adjusted they do a nice job staying in place and not sliding in and out. However, it can almost be almost tricky adjusting them with one hand, and the corners are a little sharp next to where you put your fingers to slide them so that can feel a little uncomfortable if you’re not careful.

COMFORT

When you first wear these, I find these to be very comfortable to wear. The ear cups are very comfortable, they do a good job of not putting any uncomfortable pressure on my ears or the area around my ears. The headband is comfortable at first, but I do find I start to get a hotspot on the top of my head over time. So after about an hour of wearing these it starts to get a little uncomfortable underneath the headband and I feel I need to adjust the headband or just take them off and give my head a rest for a bit.

The ANC8 feels snug on the head. The headphones don’t easily slide around when you’re wearing them, but they’re not too compressive either. It’s a pretty nice balance between being snug enough to stay put, and yet not too snug that it causes pain or discomfort.

SOUND QUALITY

The sound quality of the ANC8 is unfortunately the most disappointing aspect of these headphones. This was partly due to the fact that I had a better experience from some of their other headphones and because at this price point, I expect a little more.

Ausdom ANC8 Active Noise Cancelling Headphones Laying FlatWhat’s most obvious is a lack of clarity. The listening experience is more flat and withdrawn sounding so you’re really not able to get an emotional experience from your music. It feels a bit like you’re listening to your music from behind a curtain. So you end up feeling like your missing the life, feeling and details you’re used to hearing.

There is some bass response, and it’s ok, but again, there’s just nothing really exciting here in how the bass is presented.

So whether I was listening to music or watching movies, I just wasn’t enjoying how things sounded.

Now it’s certainly not too bright, and there’s no real harshness. So the problem is more about what these headphones are ‘lacking’ soundwise rather than trying too hard and being ‘too stimulating’ or providing too much sizzle.

BOTTOM LINE

Ultimately, the priority you place on sound quality will determine whether you should consider these headphones or not. If sound quality is a top priority and you want as much sound quality for your money as possible, then you’ll probably want to pass on these.

However, if you’re not overly picky about your listening experience and if the feature set of these headphones is appealing, then these could be a reasonable choice.

For example, maybe you want to use these while you’re working on the computer and you’re not doing any critical listening, but rather just want to be able to hear what you’re listening to. So the Active Noise Cancellation would be nice and more of a priority over getting an emotional experience from what you’re listening to.

And this price point certainly puts these in an affordable place for many people. So from that standpoint, these could be a nice choice.

As I mentioned at the beginning of this review, whether the Ausdom ANC8 is a good fit for you will ultimately come down to what your priorities are and how you plan on using these.
