Meidong E8 Noise Cancelling Bluetooth Headphones Review

I’ve listened to, enjoyed, and reviewed many headphones costing anywhere from $10 to $2,000. And although there are some aspects of these headphones that succeed, the sound quality is not what you’d expect for ANC headphones in this price range. And unless you just want an expensive pair of headphones to use for meditation, there are far better options to consider for the money.

Currently this retails for $150, but you can click here to check price and availability.

The included case is nice, the velcro strap is a smart touch. The 3.5mm cable to use as wired headphones works well and is ok quality. At this price range I’d expect something a little nicer though.

COMFORT
These are a bit compressive feeling against your head and ears, but this is what causes really good passive noise isolation. And this is probably the greatest strength of these headphones. You can literally just put these headphones on w/out any music and it will do a nice job of dampening environmental noise around you. These headphones are a bit weighty though so you do get a hotspot under the headband within an hour or so of use. So depending on how long you wear these, that may be an issue. Ear pads are comfortable and even though these aren’t ‘true’ over ear headphones, they don’t cause any significant discomfort when pressing against the outer edges of your ears.

BLUETOOTH
Pairing works well and stays connected with the device it is paired with.

NOISE CANCELLATION
You do notice a difference when the noise cancellation is turned on. For example, I was staying in a room where someone was talking loudly in the room next to me. I was trying to take a nap and it just wasn’t going to happen with out loud this guy was talking and laughing on his phone. So I just put these on, turned on the ANC and I could just faintly hear the guy after that.

E8 Headphones in carrying CaseThere is some white noise when you turn on the ANC. It reminds me of being at the ocean accept the sound is constant, rather than fluctuating with the waves coming in and going out. So it’s kind of a peaceful sound. BUT, I think good ANC headphones shouldn’t be adding any noise. So that was disappointing to ‘hear’ that with ANC headphones at this price point.

SOUND QUALITY
This is where things really went downhill. Whether the ANC is on or off, the sound is veiled overall. It lacks clarity and dynamics that you’d expect to be able hear when you’re spending this kind of money on headphones (even ANC headphones). The music doesn’t have life to it, if feels drab. There is decent low-end, meaning you can hear some bass notes, but even the bass is lacking in the sense of coming alive. It’s not like it’s flabby but just lifeless. So rather than looking forward to hearing your music on these headphones your looking forward to the song being done b/c it just doesn’t deliver an engaging listening experience of any kind.

E8 Headphones Design and ComfortDESIGN
I was actually looking forward to seeing these in person. The images of the gold trim looked like it might add a bit of a high end feel. However, when you see the gold trim in person that is hardly the case. It looks VERY tacky and cheap. Now this will come down to personal taste but these are definitely not headphones I would want to wear in public and seeing them in person was a HUGE let down. It made me feel like I just wasted $150 and I hadn’t even used them yet!

BOTTOM LINE
Overall, I can’t recommend these headphones. If they were $50 headphones, that would be a completely different story, but at $150 it’s just absurd to spend that much and get such a poor quality listening experience along with a really tacky design.
